Golf Counter Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026 (added crash reports and usage counts with Firebase)

Provider: tomople (https://tomople.com, "we")

This page is the privacy policy of the Apple Watch and iPhone app Golf Counter (the "App") only. Other tomople apps have a shared privacy policy; for this App, this page takes precedence.

The App has no accounts and no sign-up. Your scores never reach us. The only things that leave your devices are course data (pars and the positions of tees and greens), the requests needed to receive course data, and crash reports with rough usage counts (5-(4)).

1. No ads, no tracking

  • The App shows no ads. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and never asks for tracking permission.
  • The App uses Google Firebase to collect crash reports and rough usage counts (5-(4)), never for advertising.
  • We do not track you and do not sell personal information to anyone.

2. What stays on your devices

The following is stored only on your Apple Watch and iPhone. The watch and the phone talk directly through Apple's WatchConnectivity, not through our servers.

  • Your rounds (date, course name, strokes, putts, penalties and par per hole)
  • Your playing partners' names and scores
  • Where shots were played (with location on: the first stroke and first putt of each hole)
  • Your settings (holes, par, unit and so on)

These may be included in device backups you have set up, such as iCloud Backup.

3. Location

  • Location is requested "while using the app" only. It is used to find courses nearby, to record where shots were played and to show the distance to the green.
  • Turn off "Use location" in Settings and the App does not use location.
  • Your current position and movements are never sent to us. Finding courses nearby is done on the device with the course list built into the App.

4. Health (Apple Watch workouts)

  • Only when "Record as workout" is on, the round is saved to Health as a Golf workout with the energy burned. The only thing read is the energy burned during the round, to show it on the Apple Watch summary. Heart rate is not read.
  • Health data is handled on the device and never sent to us, nor used for advertising or sold.
  • Swing counting (Pro, beta) uses the watch's motion sensors during the workout, on the device only. Motion data is neither stored nor sent.

5. What leaves your devices

(1) Course data — GitHub Pages

  • When you pick a course, the hole data (built from OpenStreetMap) for the roughly 100 km square tile it lies in is downloaded from GitHub Pages (shiren358.github.io).
  • The request is an ordinary file request containing the tile number; no name or score is sent. As with any internet request, GitHub receives your IP address.

(2) Sharing course pars and tee / green positions — Supabase

  • After a round on a picked course, the following is sent to a server we use (Supabase), so that the next player there gets the pars and green distances automatically.
  • Sent: the course number (OpenStreetMap id), the nine's name (OUT / IN etc.), hole numbers, pars, and for each hole the place of the first stroke (tee) and of the first putt (green).
  • Also sent: a random number made on this iPhone, used only to count one phone as one vote and to limit how much one phone can send. It is not linked to your name, Apple ID, device name, phone number or email.
  • Your scores (strokes, putts, penalties), dates and partners' names are never sent.
  • Turn off "Share course pars and greens" in Settings and nothing is sent.
  • When you pick a course, its number is sent to receive the pars and positions others have shared.

(3) In-app purchase — Apple

  • Buying and restoring Golf Counter Pro is handled by Apple's App Store. We never receive your payment details.

(4) Crash reports and usage — Google Firebase

  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics, iPhone and Apple Watch) and rough usage counts (Firebase Analytics, iPhone only) are sent to Google.
  • Usage means these events only: a round finished, the purchase screen opened, the purchase result, the guide opened, with plain counts such as the number of holes or partners. No names, courses, scores or shot places.
  • These reports include an identifier made for each installation and the device model, OS version and language. The advertising identifier (IDFA) is not used, and nothing is used for advertising or tracking.
  • How Google handles this data: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

6. Map data

Course data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Our processed data is published at https://github.com/shiren358/golf-course-data.

7. Deleting data

  • Rounds can be deleted one by one in the iPhone app. Deleting the App removes everything stored on the device.
  • Shared course data contains nothing that identifies a person, so the part sent by a particular person cannot be found and deleted.

8. Children

The App is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes and contact

If this policy changes, this page will show the change with a new date. Contact: https://tomople.com/contact/
